Steve Welsh joined Legendary Events in 1997 as the on-call design consultant for event décor design and purchases, as well as overseeing the overall look of the company. With a degree in Fine Arts as well as more than 15 years experience in home building, remodeling and decorating, he was soon promoted to Creative Director and works with the Design, Floral and Catering teams to oversee the décor elements of each event. He is the primary purchaser of décor, tableware, and buffet items. As an adventurous worldwide traveler, Steve often sends back crates of unique and authentic décor items from both popular tourist destinations and the less traveled remote areas of the world. Beautiful baskets, clay pots and hand blown glassware from various regions of the globe rest on the shelves in our vast warehouse. “My design philosophy is simple ... I create atmospheres that impact people in a positive way to promote an emotional response,” says Steve. “The feelings I am typically working to evoke through design are serenity, energy, romance and excitement.” |
Steve’s favorite design style for events and celebrations is simply categorized as symmetrical lines in furniture placement and decorative items. He also loves to use a central color theme for continuity. The current list of his favorite fall colors include rich hues of copper, persimmon, spice, gold, mango and chocolate. “My inspiration comes from everywhere! In catering, the choice of a single item, word, or color starts an avalanche of ideas,” Steve said. Staying ahead of the current trends in event design is one of Steve’s most important contributions to our clients and their guests. “Right now the trend is to offer guests both comfortable seating areas and comfort foods served in unique and unexpected ways.” One of Steve’s most memorable design creations was a 1960’s-themed Prom Party to celebrate a favorite client’s special birthday. The surprise party was held in a gymnasium that Steve transformed into a prom-themed wonderland. Everything was retro from the teal and pink balloon arches to the streamers and handmade banners. Throughout the evening a “prom” photographer took guests photos in front of a 1960’s backdrop complete with a jukebox. |
![]() Just as in his work in home building and decorating, Steve knows the importance of understanding the client’s vision for the design and exceeding their expectations. “It’s all about listening to what the client wants and understanding how the space is going to impact guests in the manner intended...oh, and to make the host and guests say “wow” as they enter the event,” said Steve. Simply stated, Steve loves the art of creating something fabulous - whatever the theme, location or budget! |
